Details
Prerequisites 1. Attendance of the courses Aircraft Performance and Fundamentals of Flight Control or an equivalent control course.
2. Experience with Simulink.
Content / Educational Objectives This practical focuses on the practical development of unmanned air systems (UAS), specifically the control and navigation algorithms. Students will apply these algorithms on a real quadrotor.

The following topics are covered:

1. The hardware that can be found on most UAS systems.
2. Development of a simulation of a quadrotor.
3. Model parameter estimation.
4. Navigation / state estimation.
5. Quadrotor control.
6. Control allocation.

Upon successful completion of this module, students are able to understand:
– What systems make up a UAS.
– The implications of dealing with real sensor data and actuators.
– The importance of priority management for coupled systems subject to saturation.

Moreover, students are able to implement for a real quadrotor:
– A simulation model of a quadrotor.
– Identification algorithms for determination of model parameters from experiments and test flight data.
– Navigation and control algorithms in discrete time.
